ERP Not Working? 3 Reasons why, and how to correct them.

ERP systems are important for any business to manage growth, and keep abreast of political, technological, environmental and industrial changes. For many hospitals, their ERP systems create problems which prevent adequate growth and management if not addressed. Three areas your ERP implementation could be costing you money are: employee dissatisfaction,  no process review, and the wrong system.

  1. Employee Dissatisfaction

Employees are dissatisfied with ERP and other software solutions when they do not know how to use it adequately and when they realize that it is not the best fit for their current situation. For an ERP solution, the best way to increase productivity, while decreasing costs is to properly train employees who are using the system. There are many great and useful tools for managing day-to-day operations in an ERP solution. If the person using it does not know the tools, or has to find them by researching online documentation, your hospital is losing money. Both the employees and the ERP solution are not working at peak efficiency. The fix for the main problem causing employee dissatisfaction is simply getting the right training. The right training will be delivered by an organization familiar with both the health care industry (hospitals in particular) and your ERP software system.

  2. Process Review

Information has a flow, and when managed well, your information gives you the tools to decrease financial risks, increase productivity while managing finances throughout the organization. Process review looks at each area of your hospital’s financial, HR, supplies and other processes for potential problem areas. The goal of process review is to use industry best practices to implement organization wide automation, information management and business workflow. If you have not done process reviews for your ERP solution, it is costing your organization money.

  3. The Wrong Solution

ERP software often has many different modules. If you have accounting software, but need to add HR software because of risks associated with your employees (bad paperwork, time discrepancies). If you have an ERP solution that is not meeting your needs, process review and management training should identify where and how to increase your software capabilities.
