Colorado Price Transparency Law Addresses Federal Shortcoming

Fierce Healthcare

Colorado’s recent hospital price transparency law, which requires facility websites to provide detailed pricing breakdowns, also prevents hospitals and their agents from initiating or pursuing debt collection if their are not in compliance. This law goes beyond federal price transparency requirements, and lays the groundwork for other states seeking to enact similar patient protections. The law also provides an avenue for patients to sue healthcare facilities who are not in compliance, applying pressure to the healthcare industry in a way that can precipitate lasting change.
