A final rule released by The Inpatient Prospective Payment in August of 2022 has increased hospital operating payment rates by 4.3%. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), this market basket update is the highest in 25 years, and reflects expected growth in hospital worker compensation. The rule also includes equity-focused measures focused on maternity care, and establishes a designation for “Birthing-Friendly” hospitals.
