Staffing shortages and difficulty finding qualified personnel remain leading challenges for healthcare HR systems, particularly in rural areas where the availability of specialists is few and far between. Looking to the causes of these challenges, SHRM has identified several major contributing factors – including burnout, retirement, and gaps in technological skills. To overcome these persistent problems, healthcare facilities of all kinds, especially those in rural areas with smaller pools of qualified staff, will have to be creative to attract, train, and retain the workforce they need to function.
