Oracle Putting Muscle Into the Cloud

When it comes to amazing the technology world, few can say that Oracle isn’t a game-changer. When they bought Sun, many in the tech world were sure that it spelled the death of many of Sun’s key assets – Java, MySQL, and Solaris. Fifteen years later and those critics must surely be biting their tongue. Java is more popular than ever, increasing its market share into the mobile market across nearly every major phone manufacturer, MySQL is still the leading database and coding language for websites, and Solaris is still the leading Unix-based OS for servers of all sizes. Today a new horizon – and new apprehension – is greeting Oracle as they announce a new focus on cloud computing. Pulling no punches, CEO Mark Hurd announced that Oracle is the only tech company with growing margins in the cloud computing field, crediting it to simply being better at what they do than the competition. “Make no mistake about it, we are laser-focused on taking share, we are focused on growing,” Hurd said. “We are one of the few cloud companies, (that are) not only getting bigger, but our growth rate is actually accelerating at the same time.” It’ll be interesting to see where Oracle takes cloud computing in upcoming years. If how they’ve handled other banners is any indication, we can look forward to a long and every advancing history for the market. According to Hurd, “Oracle’s in a position where we have a fantastic product portfolio. We’re in a marvelous competitive position. We think we’re in a position to take market share. … Make no mistake about it, we are laser-focused on taking share. We’re focused on growing. We’re focused on driving the company forward.” To find out how you can put Oracle systems to use to help you with your ERP needs, and learn more about the PeopleSoft Applications Suite be sure to contact us.
