Oracle CTO Larry Ellison says his company is not fazed by Microsoft’s latest marketing strategies that have taken aim at the tech company. On March 7, Microsoft announced the move to bring its SQL Server to Linux. “SQL Server on Linux will provide customers with even more flexibility in their data solution. One with mission-critical performance, industry-leading TCO, best-in-class security, and hybrid cloud innovations – like Stretch Database which lets customers access their data on-premises and in the cloud whenever they want at low cost – all built in,” Microsoft said. When asked about this move, Ellison was unfazed, ZDNet reported. He called the move to port SQL Server to Linux “interesting.” “The beauty of what we offer is the same exact database experience on-premise and in the cloud, and the ability for our customers to move a workload from on-premise and into the cloud and move data from on premise into the cloud with the push of a button. That’s something that Microsoft can’t offer,” Ellison said. Even if Ellison isn’t worried about Microsoft’s latest marketing plans, the creator of Windows is offering a pretty tempting deal. TechRepublic reported on Wednesday that customers who drop Oracle will receive a free license for Microsoft SQL Server. In addition to that, Microsoft is also offering free tech support to help users with their data migration. In today’s business world, data processing is growing more important by the day. Customers know this, and they’re likely to give Microsoft’s deal a good bit of thought when considering their Oracle servers.
